Plumbing With Purpose

For Half Moon Plumbing, Inc. this is at the core of what motivates its owner, Dustin Mitchell, and his wife, Tiffany, as they and Half Moon’s team pursue plumbing excellence with a focus on Half Moon’s 3 M’s: Manners, Methods, and Materials.

Dustin was Half Moon’s sole plumber when he and Tiffany started their business in 2007 with their young family. For the reason behind the naming of the plumbing operation, go to the company's website (The Story Behind the Name | Half Moon Plumbing — Half Moon Plumbing.) You may be surprised to learn how its name came about!

Dustin and Tiffany operated the business from their home. At the beginning, Dustin worked out of a 30’X40’ shop beside their home that he had built out of scrap material. The business began to hire additional staff and technicians. Later, they leased a small shop near Highway 169 and East 76th Street in Owasso to operate from. Now, with nearly 40 employees, a building of their own, and a fleet of trucks and technicians crisscrossing Owasso and the surrounding Tulsa metro, the operation has grown into a great service company for its clients AND a great place to work for its employees. Dustin identifies both as priorities for Half Moon as being “a company our community can depend on to provide permanent solutions and to provide career opportunities that make dreams come true." He states,

"Our first core value is ‘to work as unto the Lord’ and our last core value is ‘to remember always to whom much is given, much is required.’ We have to give an account, and we have been given so much to account for!”

The process from being a one-plumber / one-truck operation to what the operation is now has been a journey of relationships, commitment and hard work. First Bank of Owasso is grateful to be one of those relationships Half Moon Plumbing has relied upon over the years, and the commitment and hard work demonstrated by Half Moon and its staff has resulted in the growth and prospering of this connection. The relationship between Half Moon and First Bank of Owasso started shortly after Half Moon opened for business with a checking account and a merchant account (merchant accounts enable businesses to accept payments via debit and credit cards). As the company continued to grow, the need for a building dedicated solely to the business became evident to Dustin and Tiffany. They owned land on Highway 20, east of Owasso, where they considered building a new facility, but when a building previously owned by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation came up for auction, they put in the winning bid to purchase the facility where Half Moon now resides.

First Bank of Owasso helped Dustin and Tiffany acquire the building and Half Moon has utilized every square inch of the facility for offices, warehouse space, training spaces for its up-and-coming technicians, and meeting areas for personnel. They have also enhanced the design for the benefit of the business and updated the aesthetics, inside and outside, to reflect an image of excellence to the public and to their employees.

Speaking of its employees, Half Moon’s statement of “Plumbing With Purpose” not only regards the importance of that purpose for its clients, but extends that important purpose of plumbing to all its employees including its technicians. “When we decided to go to service and start hiring employees, I wrote down 3 things I wanted to accomplish with leadership…to improve our employees in performance, personality, and spiritual health. Over a decade later those goals remain.”  New technicians must graduate the company’s “Half Moon University,” a rigorous training program for its would-be technicians to learn the skills and techniques that will be used in the field. The completion of the program is an accomplishment that is celebrated by all employees for each graduate and results in one of Half Moon’s colorful vans/commercial trucks outfitted for the new technician. Many of these outfitted vehicles have been financed with First Bank of Owasso as Half Moon Plumbing and its fleet of vehicles has grown.

Dustin and Tiffany have a keen sense of the responsibility that the company has for its employees. “Everything rises and falls on leadership, so the stakes are high.  There are close to 40 families who depend on Half Moon to put food on their table.  It’s been said that the leaders’ dreams have to be big enough to fit everyone else’s dreams inside. That was a huge component of why we decided to start scaling the business. God has brought some amazing people who were too good to remain working in a small company. So, I said they’re either going to go somewhere else or we can create opportunities for them right here.”

It's of great importance to First Bank of Owasso to be available to its clients and support those businesses that not only strive to succeed but strive to see their clients, employees, and others succeed.  Dustin says,

“First Bank of Owasso was the first bank account we opened when we moved to Owasso, and they have supported us every step of the way. We’re grateful for the partnership and the shared values.  It simply would not have been possible to scale at the rate we have without them.”

Plumbing. Banking. Two industries that are common. When the words “with purpose” are added…plumbing with purpose and, if we may be so bold, banking with purpose, the results can be extraordinary. First Bank of Owasso is grateful for its relationship with Half Moon Plumbing and the opportunity to be a part of this company’s extraordinary purpose in serving its clients and developing its employees.
